Repairable machines is a project at timelab, Ghent, to develop our own computer-controlled manufacturing machines.

Our first brainchild is the miniCNC. It is an desktop-size, open-source milling machine in kitform, built from lasercut parts. On this website you can find the published plans for the machine, documentation on how to put it together. You can either source your own parts & components, or order a kit from us.

JANUARI 30th 2012 - Lieven will be giving a workshop/presentation of the miniCNC at the Antwerp Hackerspace.on Friday the 10th of Februari, 8PM.

SEPTEMBER 27th 2011- Adam W.-Swicizinsky und Ewald Neuhofer from AWS design team are taking the machine to the Vienna design week to engrave furniture, from September 30th to October 3rd, themed "Copyright - Design zwischen Inspiration und Kopie"

SEPTEMBER 26th 2011 - Kimmo's copy of the machine is on display at the Tampere Architecture week http://www.arkkitehtuuriviikko.fiuntil the 2nd of October, in an exhibition on new materials and fabrication techniques.

SEPTEMBER 25th 2011 - We published version 1.08 of our machine. See Downloadsor Thingiverse for the DXF-file,

Version 1.08 features:
-a more rigid Z-axis
-version numbering engraved on all the parts
-a dual-nut/anti-backlash system on the Y-axis, greatly improving accuracy (better than 0,2mm)

SEPTEMBER 2nd 2011 - Updated the gallery with a 3D-milling example, after doing some experiments with deskproto (www.deskproto.com)

AUGUST 31st 2011 - We took the little CNC to the hoWest Prototyping summercamp.

JUNE 10th 2011 - VERSION 1.03:

The design has been published on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9182
The published plans have been updated to version 1.03 and now include plan views of the machine.

-the bottom part of the Z-block had been redesigned so the Dremel can be fixed in place with the threads on the Dremel's nose,
instead of being only fixed in place by the clamp.

We've also recently simplified the CAD.PY python script, the last version is dated 2011-05-17, see our downloads page.

MAY 28th 2011 - VERSION 1.02:

-added a strap to fix the power supply in place
-extended the belt tensioners in block B to run through both front and back panel of this block, reinforcing the block.
-removed superfluous holes from block A
-tighened the dimensions of the clamp on block Z
-extended the bottom panels of block E up to the front end of the block.
